With quick wit and fast pace, Dr Robert Schwartz gave an informative presentation on the new SNRI, Pristiq. The presentation took place during our Annual Awards dinner at Shadowbrook Country Club in Shrewsbury sponsored by Wyeth Pharmaceutical. Dr Schwartz is currently associate professor of psychiatry, director of adult outpatient services, and assistant director for residency training at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he also directs the Depression & Anxiety Disorders Research Program. Active on many committees at SUNY, he also provides direct resident supervision, lectures in several courses, and directs and organizes continuing medical education events for the psychiatry department.

maintains a small private practice and consults for the Indian Health Service, Empire Medicare Part A, Excellus Depression Management, and Cephalon and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Dr Schwartz discussed the risks and benefits, of prescribing Prestiq, dosing, contraindications, side effect profile and management and increasing predictability of those with MDD who are most likely to respond favorably to the drug.

The talk ended with Q&A and a hearty round of applause for our affable speaker.
